Merida and Yucatan are becoming very popular for retirement purposes, second winter homes, and for real estate investment options.
Living in Merida This region of Mexico has a wide diversity of activities for those looking to enjoy and interested in living to the max in Merida. Whether it is learning and exploring the mayan culture and ruins, exploring the thousands of cenotes and underground caves, visiting the gorgeous beaches and whale watching, or enjoying the famous foods and recipes from ancient downtown squares, everyday Merida living offers a lifetime of attractions to learn and visit.
To obtain a visa is a simple process and even less so for those who are looking to retire, or to simply live and establish a business here in Merida. Being only 30 minutes from the port of Progresso allows for easy shipment of heavy items from the home countries such as automobiles or furniture packages.
New highways are being built throughout the Yucatan peninsula. Currently a nice double land highway exists between Merida and Cancun, and Merida to Campeche.
A larger expatriate community is growing in Merida. A large community already exists in Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Mexico. On the suburbs of Merida, many Hacienda plantation homes are scattered throughout the countryside. But these Haciendas have become very popular amongst investors, who have been taking the old Haciendas and have begun refurbishing. The downtown area of Merida has also attracted refurbishers as these people have begun investing into older homes and have begun to repair and dress up.
